Life

I have always been pro-life. I believe that life begins at conception.

Our federal Constitution and the Virginia Bill of Rights defend the right to life, liberty, and property. I always have and always will defend the life of the unborn. At the same time, we as a society need to be caring and compassionate to the young women with unplanned pregnancies.

As remarkable as it seems, some abortions are forced or coerced by a male partner, this must end in Virginia. Some women are overwhelmed by the thought of how having a child would impact their relationship, housing situation or financial stability.

Sometimes giving birth can seem frightening to women in difficult circumstances. I believe that no one should be in the position of terminating a pregnancy because she doesn’t feel like she has any other options. Helping women avoid unnecessary and unwanted abortions means that we have to be pro-active in making other options available. For these reasons, I support making sure abortion providers are subject to the same health and safety standards as other outpatient surgical facilities. I also support current laws that ensure women are fully informed about all their options and making sure parents are as involved as possible in the reproductive decisions of their minor daughters.

Whatever our position on these issues, we should be able to agree that women deserve better than abortion.
