Taxes & Spending

I will make the tough decisions and take a firm stand to stop higher taxes. I will do this for one simple reason: I want Virginia families and businesses to prosper and keep more of their hard-earned dollars.

Taxes are necessary to provide the services we need and want. Those who label Patriotic Americans as extremist just because they oppose higher taxes and less government should re-visit the founding, design, and strength of our Nation.

Taxation is more than just about how much the government gets, it is about what you and your family keep in order to live the lifestyle you wish, give to your church or provide to your favorite charity. You should have more freedom in deciding how to spend your money, save for your child's education, or invest in your business.

I believe it's time we send a message to the career politicians in Richmond that enough is enough - that Virginia citizens have had enough of higher taxes and spiraling government spending. Those who say higher taxes are the only answer are just plain wrong.

As a proud signer of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, I will oppose every effort to increase your taxes. The state income tax in Virginia is 30% above the national average. I believe we can have better government with fiscal constraint.

I believe in tightening accountability systems, controlling the government's appetite for spending, and constantly finding new ways to improve efficiency at every level of government.

I will vote for a lock on the Transportation Trust Fund and put the already allocated gas taxes into this fund.

I believe we need to simplify our tax code and eliminate burdensome regulations to help small businesses and entrepreneurs create jobs and grow the economy. I believe Tax Reform is about Equity, Ease of Use and Transparency; not just more taxes.
